Supporting large-scale redevelopment
Town Hall partnered with Kāinga Ora from 2019, providing strategic advice and embedded communications and engagement support across major urban redevelopment programmes. This included work in Ōwairaka, Northcote, Oranga, Roskill South, Māngere and Porirua, alongside internal change communications and strategic advice for the Auckland Light Rail Specified Development Project Assessment.
The work involved supporting complex, long-term redevelopment programmes within established communities, helping Kāinga Ora communicate change, engage with stakeholders and coordinate information across development teams, government agencies and local communities.
Our Approach
-
We developed communications and engagement approaches suited to each development’s stage, context and community, while maintaining consistency with Kāinga Ora’s wider redevelopment programme. This included creating opportunities for dialogue, gathering feedback and helping residents understand the changes taking place in their neighbourhoods.
-
Working alongside development, placemaking, communications and construction teams, we helped align messaging and engagement activity across complex programmes. This supported more consistent information for residents, mana whenua, local boards and other stakeholders.
-
Recognising the scale of change involved, we provided ongoing strategic counsel and practical, on-the-ground support throughout redevelopment. We also advised on internal change communications through Kāinga Ora’s Centre of Excellence programme, supporting communication across the organisation as its ways of working evolved.
The value of partnership
Through a long-term working relationship, Town Hall provided Kāinga Ora with both strategic advice and hands-on delivery capability across multiple major programmes. Our embedded approach helped connect organisational priorities with the practical communications and engagement needed to work effectively with communities through complex urban change.
